Nautilus Sports/Medical Industries has turned a profit at its Independence exercise-equipment plant and the volume of orders has picked up, John Saunders, a company vice president, said Thursday. About 50 employees remain on layoff, however. Two employees have been moved from a Roanoke office to Independence to start a telemarketing unit, Saunders said.

\ Georgia-Pacific Corp., which has a distribution center in Roanoke and a container board plant in Bedford County, has reported lower net income last year as a result of "deteriorating economic conditions," said T. Marshall Hahn, chairman. Earnings were $365 million in 1990, down 45 percent from $661 million in 1989. Sales came to $12.7 billion, a 25 percent rise.

\ System4 Advertising Agency of Roanoke will handle advertising and public relations for Natural Bridge Village. Van Drummond, marketing director for Natural Bridge Village, said the campaign is part of its expanding marketing effort.

\ John Lambert Associates has been recognized for a public relations program performed for New Hanover Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, N.C. A national publication, "Profiles in Healthcare Marketing," has selected an emergency community relations campaign planned and implemented by the Lambert firm for inclusion in its 10th anniversary issue.
