BUS DRIVER ACQUITTED OF ASSAULT CHARGES

A striking Greyhound bus driver was acquitted Thursday of charges that he assaulted a replacement driver at the Roanoke bus terminal.

Larry Joe Gore of Vinton had been convicted of the charge in Roanoke General District Court, but appealed to Circuit Court, where a jury acquitted him after a daylong trial.

It was the second time that Gore has been acquitted of a strike-related charge.

In Thursday's trial, driver Wayne Jackson testified that Gore confronted him on the picket line outside the terminal last July and later leaned through an open window of the bus and hit him.

Gore denied the charge, arguing that the bus window was too high for him to have reached through.
