`WAGON TRAIN' ACTOR JOHN MCINTIRE DIES

John McIntire, the character actor who portrayed the stolid, laconic wagonmaster in the television series "Wagon Train" in the early 1960s, died Wednesday in Pasadena, Calif. The 83-year-old actor died of emphysema and cancer.

McIntire played the police chief in "The Asphalt Jungle," a sharecropper in "A Lion Is in the Streets" and a sheriff in "Psycho."

On television, McIntire performed in the series "Naked City" and "The Virginian."
