Edmund M. Ricci Jr., 44, identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Pearisburg real estate agent, faces life imprisonment and a fine of $8 million if convicted of all charges, an FBI news release said.
Ricci was arrested in Blacksburg Wednesday. He was among seven men indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Philadelphia. The others are from Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Michigan.
The FBI in Richmond said Ricci and the others were indicted in connection with a five-ton, multimillion-dollar marijuana transaction conducted in the fall of 1986.
Ricci and another defendant were specifically charged with with buying about 1 1/2 tons of marijuanna in that transaction, the FBI said.
Ricci appeared before U.S. Magistrate Glen E. Conrad in Roanoke and was still in custody in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Published correction ran on Saturday, February 2, 1991 in Current\ A Giles County man who was arrested on drug charges this week is a former real estate agent from the Staffordsville area, Pearisburg Town Manager Ken Vittum said Friday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation identified Edmund M. Ricci Jr., 44, as a Pearisburg real estate agent in a news release. This information was published in Friday's New River Current.
He was arrested after a federal grand jury in Philadelphia indicted him and six others on charges of conspiracy and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
