COUGARS RIP COLONELS

Pulaski County fought back from a first-quarter deficit Thursday night and pulled away for a 65-44 high school girls' basketball victory over William Fleming in the Roanoke Valley District.

William Fleming's Regina Fields scored a game-high 32 points, including the game's only two 3-point field goals.

The Cougars trailed 11-5 before pulling ahead 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and building a 30-20 lead by halftime. They put away the game with a 14-8 third-quarter run.

Terri Garland led Pulaski County (14-1, 6-1) with 23 points, going 9-for-12 on free throws. Becky Smith had 15 and Cindy Martin added 14 points.

Ali Colgrove led Cave Spring with a game-high 23 points, and the Knights got 18 points from Lisa Hodges, 14 from Kim Stewart and 11 from Amy Noell. Stewart sank two 3-point field goals.

Kim Saunders had 22 points to lead Patrick Henry.
