3 PROGRAMS COMPRISE BEVILLE MEMORIAL FUND

Stuart M. Beville, a leading community figure in the New River Valley, died in 1990. He was an associate professor educational administration at Virginia Tech and came out of retirement to be acting superintendent of the Montgomery County schools in 1987.

Beville received much praise for what he accomplished as teacher, coach, principal and superintendent in the seven Virginia school divisions in which he worked.

Beville's friends have established the Stuart M. Beville Memorial Fund, held by Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Three programs are offered in his memory:

A $500 college scholarship, with preference for applicants interested in a "helping" profession. Applications are accepted Jan. 1-March 15 each year.

An emergency loan fund for college students. Loans, not to exceed $200 to any student in an academic year, would be interest-free and repaid in 90 days. Application is taken at the time of need.

An award for outstanding ethical and moral standards among principals in Virginia public schools. The award is for a principal who demonstrates a sustained performance in truth, fairness, good will and beneficence. Nomination period is Feb. 1-April 1.

To contribute to the fund, send a check to Stuart Beville Memorial Fund, Blacksburg United Methodist Church, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.

Nomination and application forms for the award, scholarship or loan are available at Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Completed applications must be submitted to the pastor of the church. The pastor will recommend applicants.
