Sterlin Lamar Newman, age 77, passed away Friday in Twin County Community Hospital. He is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Newman Lowe, Galax; Delores Newman Kuhaida, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and Rebecca Newman Lawson of Blacksburg; five sisters, Wilma Littreal and Thelma Quesenberry, both of Galax; Dorothy McGhee, Colonial Heights; Beatrice Gallimore, Manahawkin, N. J.; and Mildred Surber of Roanoke; two brothers, Gilmer Newman, Pulaski; and Wayne Newman of Roanoke. Mr. Newman has seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a member of the Mystic Lodge No. 244 I.O.O.F., Galax, and the Campground Incampment No. 42 I.O.O.F. of Fries. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Monta Vista Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home. Flowers will be appreciated or donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
