In late January, the Big East quizzed each prospective member separately about its views on the new league. All eight schools, Tranghese said, have not met at the same time.
A Big East spokesman said last week that the league's 10 members would vote on football membership during league meetings Thursday, but Tranghese said the non-football members already have approved the football concept and will not vote on membership. That, he said, is up to Syracuse, Miami, Pittsburgh and Boston College - the league's current Division I-A football schools.
"What we need to do now is take everyone and go through every issue imaginable," Tranghese said. "This is another step in the process but an extremely positive step. Why it's taken this long has not been because of anything negative."
Tech, West Virginia, Rutgers and Temple are expected to be added to form an eight-team league. Tech athletic director Dave Braine met with West Virginia athletic director Ed Pastilong on Friday to discuss their views about the new league. Tech and West Virginia play basketball today in Morgantown, W.Va.
