War effort praised
PHILADELPHIA - The Messianic Jewish Alliance of America, which claims to represent 100,000 American Jews who have accepted Jesus as Messiah, has praised President Bush and allied forces fighting in the Middle East.
"While we abhor all wars, we understand that sometimes it is necessary to use force to protect our freedom and vital interests," said MJAA President Robert Winer. - Associated Press
`Prayers for Peace'
NEW YORK - A "Prayers for Peace" campaign has been launched on the cable network of VISN, the Vision Interfaith Satellite Network operated by the country's various religious bodies.
The series of 30- and 60-second spots features prayers by Christian, Islamic, Jewish and Orthodox leaders.
Jeffrey C. Weber, executive vice president of programming, said that "while other networks are admirably covering the news aspects" of the war, "VISN feels it can make its best contribution by being a place for reflection and prayer." - Associated Press
Condom distribution
NEW YORK - The American Jewish Congress has voiced support for a proposed plan for distributing condoms in New York City schools and said "every school district in the nation should do the same." - Associated Press
