HEALTH AGENCY OKS FISHERSVILLE HOSPITAL

The state Health Department has approved Augusta Hospital Corp.'s plans to construct a hospital in Fishersville that would consolidate the services of two other hospitals.

The action ends a 2 1/2-year battle by allowing the $50.8 million, 225-bed facility to replace King's Daughters' Hospital in Staunton and Waynesboro Community Hospital, both of which Augusta Hospital Corp. owns.

Augusta Hospital Corp., a non-profit company plans to build the new facility on a 120-acre site near Interstate 64 and Virginia 608.
