GUARD SHOT OUTSIDE CHRISTIAN STATION

A man who allegedly crashed through a gate and shot at a security guard at the Christian Broadcasting Network complex before fleeing in his car was arrested Friday, police said.

No one was injured, and police captured the suspect after a car chase about 15 minutes shortly after the incident, authorities said.

George D. Bean, 35, of Virginia Beach was charged Friday with attempted malicious assault, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and brandishing a gun, said L.B. Thurston of the Virginia Beach police.

CBN officials said the suspect is not connected with the network.

The suspect had left two "suspicious-looking packages" at CBN founder Pat Robertson's house, which is part of the CBN complex, Thurston said.

Police notified the fire department, which found a football helmet, a miniature football and some letters in the packages.
