TUNSTALL STUNS MARTINSVILLE 90-86

Fresh off a victory over top-ranked Laurel Park on Tuesday, second-ranked Martinsville was toppled by Tunstall 90-86 Friday night in a Piedmont District boys' basketball upset.

Trailing by five points entering the fourth quarter, the Trojans (9-6 overall, 8-5 Piedmont) outscored Martinsville 24-15 in the final quarter to pull it out. The four-point margin of victory was the largest lead of the night for Tunstall, which trailed 28-17 in the first quarter.

Freshman Khris Law powered the Trojans, equaling his career best with 28 points, and his brother Cecil had 24 points and nine assists.

Sophomore Terrance Carter, Corey White and R.J. Weaver each chipped in 10 points. White, a 6-foot-4 senior coming off the bench, also pulled seven rebounds.

Tunstall was playing without freshman starter Chris Walton, who is sidelined with a sprained ankle. The Trojans also lost Carter, who grabbed 16 rebounds, with a possible fractured ankle midway through the fourth quarter.

Weaver, among Timesland's leaders in free-throw percentage, nailed all three of his attempts to bring his season totals to 33 made in 35 attempts.

Martinsville (13-2, 11-2) led by seven points with seven minutes remaining, but Tunstall reeled off an 11-2 run to take the lead. After the lead switched hands several times, Weaver and Cecil Law each sank two free throws in the final minute to put seal the win.

Carl Brandon scored 22, Troy Brandon 20, Michael Frazier 14 and Chris DePriest 10 for the Bulldogs.

Phillips scored 22 points to lead Bath (8-4, 8-4). Williams added 20 points and McCune 16.

The Chargers made 14 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to lock up the victory.

William Sensabaugh paced the Rebels (4-10, 3-9) with 21 points.

Dale Marshall, who had 18 points, scored eight points in the second quarter as Floyd outscored Galax 21-6, including the 13-0 run that made it 34-16 at the half. In the third, Light scored 16 of his game-high 22 points as Galax opened a 58-32 lead.

Jeff Spells led Galax (4-9, 4-9) with 14 points.

The Shawnees were hurt by a 1-of-10 effort from the free-throw line. Bland made 15 of 20 chances from the line.

David King led the Rockets with 25 points. Kenny Dow had 28 for the Shawnees.

Wilburn's off-balance shot with three seconds left bounced in to lift Giles (5-8, 5-8) to the win. Mitch Hawks' 15-foot baseline jumper had given the Blue Devils (9-5, 8-5) a lead with 21 seconds left.

Grayson County was its own worst enemy, making only 12 of 24 free throws, including nine misses on the front end of one-and-one chances.

Bonner Satterwhite led Grayson with 17 points.
