MUSIC ACADEMY TO HOLD FUND-RAISER

Chamberfest 1991, this year's fund-raising reception for the Virginia Chamber Music Academy, is set for Saturday, Feb. 16, and will feature performances by three members of the academy faculty.

The benefit, featuring champagne and hors d'oeuvres in addition to the music, will be at the Red Lion Inn Fest Halle in Blacksburg, starting at 5 p.m. and continuing until 7.

Performing will be violinist Sharon Polifrone, violist Doris Lederer and cellist Ulrich Hoeckheler.

Also on the program is a slide/tape retrospective of last year's inaugural academy season.

Tickets to Chamberfest 1991 are $18 per person.

The Virginia Chamber Music Academy is a two-week session of coaching, master classes, practice and rehearsals for selected string players and pianists who are at least 18 years old. A number of public performances are part of the program.

The academy is based in Blacksburg. Its president is Jon Prolifone, composer and member of the music faculty at Virginia Tech. His wife, violinist Sharon Prolifone, is artistic director.

Members of the faculty, all returning from the first year, are Boeckheler, Sharon Prolifone, pianists Susan Starr and Teresa Gravino Ehrlich, and the Audubon Quartet, which is in residence at Virginia Tech.

Doris Lederer, who will perform at Chamberfest 1991, is a member of the quartet along with violinists David Ehrlich and David Salness and cellist Thomas Shaw.

Between 20 and 25 students are expected for this year's academy, which is set for May 20-June 2. There will be concerts on May 26 and June 2 at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. Two other picnic concerts at Smithfield Plantation will be on dates to be announced.
