NS OPENS METALS DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Norfolk Southern Corp. said Monday it has opened a new metals distribution facility in Charlotte, N.C., in a venture with Western Intermodal Services Ltd. It is the first such facility under a metals distribution program the two companies are developing to serve the southeastern metals market.

The 40,000-square-foot center includes heated warehouse space, depressed rail track to accommodate specialized railcars and an inside truck-loading facility. After metals are moved to the center by NS railcars, they are loaded on trucks for distribution to customers in the Carolinas. - Staff report
