BOBCATS' SNELL TRANSFERS TO AUBURN

Preston Snell, the former Radford High basketball player, has transferred to Auburn High.

Snell was leading Radford with a 17-point scoring average when he was declared academically ineligible several weeks ago.

According to Virginia High School League rules, he would not be eligible for the Eagles' team this year, but that apparently had little influence on him. Academics is his first concern, his father, Paul, said.

"He wants to prove to people that he's more than just a basketball player," Paul Snell said.

Preston Snell will probably attend private school for the 1991-92 year. Fork Union Military Academy is a good possibility, Paul Snell said. - Staff report
