MINISTERS OUT TO REMOVE X-RATED VIDEOS

A group of Tazewell County ministers is trying to rid video stores of X-rated videos, prompting at least one store owner to contact the American Civil Liberties Union.

The Tazewell County Evangelical Association has sent letters to store owners and visited some of the stores to try and get the racy tapes removed.

The association was formed nine months ago after a principal at Tazewell Middle School was reassigned as an instructor at the county's vocational-technical school.

Members of the association suggested it was because the principal had been leading prayer meetings with his teachers and other employees 45 minutes before the start of classes each day. The School Board said the reassignment was due to insubordination over whether the principal could make a trip.

The group's interest shifted to X-rated videos several months ago. Robert Woods, owner of Woody's Home Video in Richlands, said he has contacted the ACLU for legal advice and collected more than 400 signatures on a petition supporting the right of people to watch whatever entertainment they choose.
