In an agreement with Willie Ray, Clarence Glen and Frances J. Stinnette, the county paid $8,000 for an exclusive option to buy 172 acres at a cost of $212,500.
The county also gave $500 to Ira D. and Donna T. Kirby for an option to buy 10 additional acres. That property will cost $12,000, according to the option agreement.
The county has until July 31 to exercise its options.
County Administrator William Rolfe said Monday the county still needs to purchase one or two 10-acre tracts for the new dump, 7 miles south of the city of Bedford.
"They've agreed to sell," Rolfe said of the owners of the remaining tracts. "It's just a matter of price."
The landfill is expected to cost about $30.5 million over the next 30 to 35 years.
