FALL FROM TRESTLE KILLS FRANKLIN MAN

An adventurous sport ended in death for a Rocky Mount man Sunday when he fell from a railroad trestle, authorities said.

Edward Allen Austin, 25, was using mountaineering gear to descend the trestle in the Prilliman Switch area of Rocky Mount when his harness came loose, Investigator Ray B. Hundley said. Austin fell 100 feet.

Austin may have loosened his harness to rest and not secured it properly when he rappelled from the frame, Hundley said.
