`HILLBILLIES' ACTRESS NANCY KULP DIES

Actress Nancy Kulp, who portrayed the bookwormish Jane Hathaway on "The Beverly Hillbillies," has died of cancer. She was 69.

Her film credits include "The Model and the Marriage Broker, "Steel Town," "Shane," "Sabrina," "Count Three and Pray," "God is My Partner," "The Parent Trap," "Who's Minding the Store?" and "The Patsy."

On television, Kulp appeared on "Love That Bob," "I Love Lucy," "Our Miss Brooks," "Perry Mason," "Sanford and Son," "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Scarecrow and Mrs. King," "Simon and Simon" and "Quantum Leap."

Kulp ran for Congress as a Democrat from Port Royal, Pa., in the 1980s, but was defeated after "Beverly Hillbillies" co-star Buddy Ebsen publicly opposed her.
