INVERNESS, FLORIDA - Robert Oglesby Basham, age 76, died Monday, February 4, 1991 in Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Fla. He was born in Hardy on January 30, 1915, a son of the late Oglesby D. Basham and Madeline Altice Basham. He was the former owner and operator of Spring Valley Gulf Station in Washington, DC and Basham's Gulf of Washington. He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Inverness, Fla. Mr. Basham was also a 24 year member of the Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge Number 2188. Survivors include his wife, Mary Virginia Coffey Basham, Inverness, Fla.; three brothers, Aubrey D. Basham, Fairfax; Frank H. Basham, Moneta; Rev. Johnny Basham, Moneta; six sisters, Frances B. Bobbitt, Spencer; Gertrude B. Fletcher, Lynchburg; Dorothy B. Layne, Lynchburg; Audrey B. Branch, Hampton; Addie B. Dillon, Rocky Mount; Barbara Ann B. Bostic, Charlotte, N.C.; also several nieces and nephew. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 8, 1991 at 1:00 p.m. at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Basham officiating. Burial will follow in the Virginia Memorial Park in Forest. The family will receive friends at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and other times at the Coffey home near Forest.
