FLORENCE, S.C. - James Roscoe Gross, age 74, died Tuesday, February 5, 1991, in a Florence, S.C., hospital after an illness. He was born in Bedford County, a son of the late Robert Theodore and Susie Vasser Gross. He was a graduate of Virginia Southern College in business and accounting. He had lived in Florence, S.C., for the past twenty years, having moved from Cork, Ireland, and prior to that he lived in Roanoke. He was a retired employee in Production Control with Cotton City Industry in Hartsville, S.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the First Baptist Church and the Roy Graham Fellowship Class. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Rodgers Gross, Florence, S.C.; two daughters, Dianne Burnett, Florence, S.C.; Patti Lynn Bates, Norway, S.C.; one brother, Auvie Gross, Roanoke; two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 1991, at the First Baptist Church, Florence, S.C. Burial will be in the Florence County Memorial Gardens, directed by Cain Funeral Home. The casket will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
