CALLAWAY - Samuel King Helms, age 79, Master Sgt. retired, died Monday, February 4, 1991 at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Helms and was the author of the Helms Family of Virginia history. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Mooney Helms; one daughter, Elizabeth Haven of Callaway; two sons, W. Dempsey Helms, Phoenix, Ariz.; Samuel K. Helms, Jr., Concord, N.C.; one sister, Mary Massey of Martinsville; three grandchildren. A funeral mass will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Helms Family Cemetery. Friends may call at Lynch Funeral Home in Rocky Mount after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday where there will be a vigil service for the deceased at 8:00 p.m.
