"School Board Member Appreciation Week" is Feb. 11-17.

The week was designated by Gov. Douglas Wilder to focus attention on the important role these public officials play in children's education.

The theme, "School Boards. . .An American Tradition of Service," stresses the proud history of local citizen control of and accountability for the state's public schools.
