GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Lottery funds: Republicans criticized Gov. Douglas Wilder's plan to partially plug the state's $2.2 billion budget hole with $508 million in lottery profits.

Gypsy moths: Senate Local Government Committee approved a House-passed bill that would allow localities to set up special tax districts to pay for gypsy-moth spraying.

Voter registration: Senate Privileges and Elections Committee approved a House-passed bill that would allow voter registration in apartment complexes and condominiums.

Elected school boards: Sen. Charles Waddell, D-Loudoun County, asked the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee to add Loudoun County to the list of six localities that would be allowed to have elected school boards under a House-passed bill. The committee delayed a vote until next week.
