SCHWARZKOPF PREDICTS SHORT WAR

The commander of U.S. troops in the gulf war said Tuesday he doesn't plan to be in the gulf a year from now but declined to be any more precise about when the fighting might end.

Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf said in an interview with CBS that the conflict would be over "sooner rather than later, and it's going to be over with the right outcome."

Asked whether it would take weeks, months or years, the general said, "I don't plan on being here next year at this time, I can assure you that."
