BEATING VICTIM IN BED 11 DAYS BEFORE TREATMENT

A Southeast Roanoke woman who apparently was severely beaten with a stick and then lay in bed for 11 days with no medical treatment was listed in stable condition today at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

City police said Beula Huffman, 64, of the 800 block of Dale Avenue Southeast, was taken to the hospital Tuesday after a visiting sister-in-law found her in bed.

The woman was in surgery late Tuesday and police have not been able to interview her.

But the sister-in-law told authorities Huffman said someone beat her with a stick on Jan. 25.

Huffman suffered a broken leg and cuts and bruises to her forehead and left eye, police said. She apparently lay in bed in pain until she was discovered.

Police say they are investigating a possible suspect in the beating.
