SUSPECT IS ARRESTED IN BEATING OF MAN

A passing patrol officer found George Stevens, 50, of Vinton, lying unconscious and bleeding from the head on Salem Avenue near Jefferson Street about 5:45 p.m.

After a witness pointed out a suspect, police arrested Robert Cunningham, 42, of Brambleton Avenue Southwest and charged him with malicious wounding.

Stevens was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
