WAS GOP SENATOR RIGHT ON THE BUDGET?

A COMMENTARY Page article Jan. 22 by state Sen. Joseph B. Benedetti states that the governor's budget bill included 2,100 more state employees than when Wilder took office.

Benedetti implies that most of these will be in the Richmond bureaucracy. I'm sure that many of the folks in this area, who have been laid off because of the state budget crunch, would love to know more about this.

Was this an accurate statement? Was it reported fully in your paper? If it was, I missed it. If it wasn't reported, it certainly should have been. Please give us the details, who, where, why. ROBERT L. PIENKOWSKI BLACKSBURG

Editor's note: The newspaper has not reported on this and cannot vouch for Benedetti's accuracy.
