Mar Lodge, Kluge's hunting and fishing lodge, sustained about $2 million worth of damage in last Thursday's fire.
Kluge had bought the 19th-century granite mansion, which is about 60 miles west of Aberdeen, two years ago for about $26 million.
The late-evening blaze gutted the central portion of the 30-bedroom mansion and the slate roof. The lodge's wings were not damaged.
The lodge was being renovated when the fire broke out, said Hugh Farmer, who lives near the mansion. Several stag heads and antiques such as medieval armor were in storage and were not damaged.
Fifty firefighters took about six or seven hours to contain the blaze.
The fire was the second recent fire at the lodge, Farmer said. A small fire in the attic was put out in January.
Kluge's now-estranged wife, Patricia, had urged the purchase of the lodge. Kluge retained the estate in his divorce settlement.
