The 11th annual Chance Crawford Slow-pitch Softball Tournament will be held April 26-28 at various athletic fields in Salem.
There will be six divisions this year: men's Class A and B, men's Class C, men's Class D American, men's Class D National, women's Class C and women's Class D.
The entry fee is $95 per team, with checks to be made payable to the city of Salem. Each team must furnish one new ball for each game played.
The first 140 teams to enter will be accepted. The entry deadline is April 19 at 5 p.m. For more information, call the Salem Parks and Recreation Department at 375-3057.
Former Gator helps Princeton beat Harvard
Carrington Cole, a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and former member of the Roanoke Valley Gators, took part in the Princeton University swim team's recent 163-137 win over Harvard University for the Ivy League title.
Cole placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.26), third in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:07.34) and third in the 200-yard breast stroke (2:24.84).
Cole, a sophomore, is the daughter of Nancy and Charlie Cole of 2912 Rosalind Ave. S.W. She will compete in the Eastern Seaboard Championship at Princeton Feb. 21-23.
