Vinton seeks residents for volunteer positions

The town of Vinton is accepting applications from individuals who would like to be considered for future volunteer town positions.

Candidates, who must live within the town limits, may apply for positions on the town Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Highway Safety Commission and Fair Housing Board.

Applications may be obtained at the town manager's office in the Vinton Municipal Building, 311 S. Pollard St.

Kelly Services to help non-profit organizations

Kelly Temporary Services is accepting nominations of charitable organizations to receive free temporary help during KellyWeek, March 10-16.

During this time, the Roanoke Kelly office will provide eight hours of help to each of eight non-profit organizations in the Roanoke Valley. The groups will be chosen at random from nominations made by Feb. 22.

Those interested in nominating a charitable organization may call the Kelly office at 774-8300.

Antique-auto club elects new officers

Jack Disher has been elected president of the Roanoke Valley Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Other officers are Solomon Tabor, vice president; Mike Gilmore, vice president/activities; Bob Dooley, treasurer; Annette Sumpter, recording secretary; and Ella Jean Wade, corresponding secretary.

Bob Pedigo, Howard Sumpter and Barry Dooley will serve on the executive committee.

Donations needed for trout fishing rodeo

Martha Robertson and the Salem Parks and Recreation Department are preparing for the 40th annual Ernest "Pig" Robertson Trout Fishing Rodeo.

The event, for children, the handicapped, and nursing home patients, is held each year at Salem's Lake Spring Pond. This year's rodeo is scheduled for mid-May.

Cash donations are needed in order to purchase trout to stock the pond. Last year, more than 1,500 participants caught $6,900 worth of trout.
