Grace Elizabeth Vaughan, age 89, of Bell Air, Maryland, formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, February 6, after a year long battle with kidney disease. Born in Acron, Ohio, Mrs. Vaughan lived in Texas after her marriage to Edgar Newton Vaughan, and the couple moved to Roanoke in 1930. Mrs. Vaughan worked as a social worker for the City of Roanoke for thirty years. Her husband, a 32nd Degree Mason at the Blue Lodge, was a Telegrapher for the Roanoke Times and World News. He predeceased her in 1972. Mrs. Vaughan has lived in Bel Air, Md., for the past fourteen years. Mrs. Vaughan was president of the Euzelian Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness; her cheerful and positive outlook on life. She is survived by her two daughters, Nell V. Steele and Dorothy V. Blackburn, both of Baltimore, Md.; and her four grandchildren, William Blackburn of Copley, Ohio; Linda Fotheringill, Timothy Blackburn and Scott Blackburn, all of Baltimore, Md.; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating with burial to follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
