CHRISTIANSBURG - Mrs. Hazel Elizabeth (Wilberger) Dean, age 78, widow of Elwood Burkholder Dean Sr., of 240 Country Drive, Christiansburg and formerly of Staunton, died at 11:47 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 1991, in the Radford Community Hospital. She was born on October 12, 1912, in Augusta County, daughter of Minor Bell and Zula May (Landis) Wilberger. Prior to retiring in 1980, Mrs. Dean was employed by Legget Department Store and she was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church. Her husband preceded her in death on March 25, 1975. Survivors include two sons, Elwood B. Dean Jr., Westminister, Md.; John M. Dean, Staunton; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie (Dean) Benson, Christiansburg; Ms. Shirley Dean, Staunton; two brothers, Russell L. and John M. Wilberger, both of Staunton; two sisters, Mrs. Jean W. Myers and Mrs. Billie Ann Spitler, both of Staunton; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. A service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel, Staunton, by the Rev. James Chappell. The burial will be in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 this evening at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Memorial Trust Fund of Staunton-Augusta County Rescue Squad, 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, Va., 24401.
