THE MUNDAHS OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO BRING THEIR `SURF JAZZ' TUESDAY TO THE

The Mundahs, from Hilton Head Island, S.C., will perform Tuesday evening at the Balcony in Blacksburg. The three-piece group plays a musical style that leader Al Cech describes as "surf jazz."

"We started playing the music at clubs around Hilton Head Island three years ago," Cech said in a phone interview Thursday. "It was very popular with the local people and the college students in and around the resort area."

Cech, who plays bass and is the lead vocalist for the band, said this is the group's first performance in the New River Valley. Other band members are Jess Watkins, guitar, and Dave Myers, percussion.

Al Brauns, owner of The Balcony, said The Mundahs attract well-deserved attention. "They are an exceptional band," he said.

Tuesday's show starts at 9:30 p.m. There will be a cover charge at the door. The Balcony is at 217 W. College Ave.
