BLACKSBURG TO GET BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO

Blockbuster Video, the largest video rental chain in the country, plans to open a new store here in late March.

Todd Turner, spokesman for WJB Video, a franchisee of Blockbuster, said the store will stock between 8,000 and 10,000 videos.

"What makes Blockbuster different is their huge catalog of all different genres," from classics to new releases, said Turner from WJB's offices in South Carolina.

Blockbuster membership is free with a major credit card to secure the account. Otherwise it's $3, he said. Video rentals in Blacksburg will cost $3 for three evenings.

Construction has begun on the new $217,000 building on University City Boulevard.

Turner said the Blacksburg store is the first New River Valley Blockbuster. There are three in the Roanoke area. Blacksburg was chosen largely because of the Virginia Tech population, Turner said.
