REPORTER USUALLY DOESN'T INTERPRET

LIKE BEE Tolman (letter, Jan. 23), I was watching and reading the news of events in Iraq and Kuwait. But I thought the reporters did a great job!

She is right: It wasn't a ball game; that is why there had to be strong words to describe the devastation.

I don't think, as a rule, a reporter interprets the news for us. I think he reports what he sees and hears. There have been times when I wish he would explain it a little more. That makes things clearer for me.

And when that AP reporter wrote "streaked north," that is just what they did! When he said "on a starlit night," that is what it was! A reporter is honest - no matter what the situation is.

This is a sad time for us all, so we should spend more time praying instead of criticizing. With one of my sons in the Navy and two great-nephews also in the armed services, I pray that God will be with us all. GERTRUDE W. LESTER VINTON
