Sherwood F. Townsend, age 73, of Roanoke died in a Roanoke hospital Thursday. He was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad (Paint Department) and a member and deacon of Belmont Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Poff Townsend, Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, S. Lynn Townsend and Barbara C. Townsend, Richmond; four grandchildren; mother, Lydia W. Sink, Roanoke; half sister, Edna Harris; half brother, Jack Sink, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 12:00 noon Saturday by Dr. Tom Cribbs and Rev. Robert Lanier. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to Belmont Baptist Church or a favorite charity. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday.
