FREDERICKSBURG SHOWS SUPPORT FOR U.S. TROOPS

Flags and yellow ribbons will adorn shops in a salute to U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf - courtesy of the city.

The city will distribute flags to downtown merchants who are willing to put them out in the morning and take them in each evening. Flag etiquette says that flags should not be flown in the dark or in the rain.

"I feel we owe our support and prayers to all service men and women," said council member Betty Gordon, who led the patriotic drive.

Gordon said a mile of yellow ribbon has been ordered and will be distributed downtown. Money collected in the campaign also will be used for a large banner and four signs to be posted at city entrances.

The signs and banner will read: "Fredericksburg salutes its troops in the Persian Gulf."
