GIRL, 14, ATTACKED, ROBBED OF $4.12

A 14-year-old Roanoke girl was robbed of $4.12 Thursday night by a man who attacked her as she walked along a Southwest Roanoke street, police said today.

The girl, who lives on Patterson Avenue, was walking on Chapman Avenue about 10:05 p.m. when a man jumped from behind a hedge and grabbed her in the throat, authorities said.

The man, who was about 19 or 20 years old, removed $4 in bills from the girl's pocket, and then demanded the change he heard rattling in her pocket. She gave him an additional 12 cents, police said.

The man released the girl, and she fled to the nearby home of a relative.
