SISTERS ROBBED AFTER VISIT TO GRAVEYARD

Two middle-aged sisters were attacked and robbed by a man Thursday night as they placed flowers on their brother's grave at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Roanoke police said today.

The sisters, aged 46 and 58, had placed the flowers on the grave about 7 p.m. and were walking back to their car when they were approached by a man in his 20s.

The man asked if they had found everything they needed, and then grabbed the younger woman from behind in a sexual attack, authorities said.

The older woman began to scream and hit the man several times with her purse.

The man then lifted the younger woman off the ground and threw her into the older woman, causing both women to fall to the ground, police said. He took one of the women's purses and fled.

The older woman received a cut to her head, authorities said.
