LADY MAROONS BEAT WASPS; STREAK AT 19

Amy Saunders scored all seven of her points in the second half, including the last five for Roanoke, as the 12th-ranked Lady Maroons extended their winning streak to 19 with a 61-58 Old Dominion Athletic Conference basketball victory Friday over stubborn Emory & Henry.

With the score 56-56, Saunders converted a three-point play with a minute left to put Roanoke (21-1 overall, 16-0 in the ODAC) up by three. The Wasps (7-13, 7-8) cut it to 59-58 on a jumper from Emily Wingate, who scored a game-high 18 points.

Emory & Henry went to full-court pressure, but Jen Jones' outlet pass to Saunders for a layup with 14 seconds left sealed the victory.

Debby Jones led Roanoke with 15 points, including 5-for-6 shooting in the second half. Donna Cogar added 10 points and Amy Puyear had eight. Saunders also had five steals and four rebounds for the Lady Maroons.
