BLACKSBURG MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE

A Blacksburg man was charged early Friday morning with raping and beating a 22-year-old woman from Northern Virginia, police said.

Sonny Samuel Coulter, 19, of 222 Progress St., was arrested at about 5 a.m. and is being held at the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash or $400,000 property bond.

Police said Coulter and the woman had met Thursday night at a local nightclub and returned to Coulter's residence. The woman was later treated at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

No weapons were involved, police said. Coulter has been charged with rape and malicious wounding. An arraignment has been set for Monday in Montgomery County General District Court.
