BEDFORD - Robert Alexander Walker, age 77, of 1003 Peaks Street, died Saturday, February 9, 1991. He was born in Bedford County on August 30, 1913, son of the late Robert Parker Walker and Emma Johnson Walker. He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy, Bedford; served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in World War II; was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service; and in his later years he continued raise beef cattle. He was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, the Bedford Ruritan Club, and the Lynchburg Elks Lodge No. 321. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Caroline Virginia Walker and Miriam Walker Laughon. He is survived by his wife, Louise Holland Walker; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Walker and James R. Holdren, Janet W. and Macon C. Putney, all of Bedford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert F. (Bobby) and Patsy C. Walker of Bedford and William Parker Walker of Danville; two sisters, Margaret W. Springer of Warrenton and Madalyn W. Bateman of Raleigh, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 11, 1991, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darrell T. Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home and other times at the home.
