ROANOKE POWER LIFTER WINS NATIONAL TITLE

Mike Thompson, a physical education instructor at Cave Spring Junior High, won the 181-pound weight class of the Lifetime Drug Free Power Lifting National Championship on Saturday at Arizona State University.

Thompson squatted 612 pounds, benched 330 pounds and dead-lifted 622 pounds for a winning total of 1,564 pounds.

Competitors in this event are tested for any prior use of strength-inducing drugs. - Staff report
