OBIT-MARTIN, I.

PEMBROKE - Irene Martin, age 73, died Sunday evening in a Pearisburg hospital. A native of Pembroke, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Nellie Lucas Gillespie. She was a member of the Pembroke Church of God where she served as Church Clerk for 31 years. Surviving are her husband, Shuler J. Martin; two sons, Charles C. Martin Sr. and Larry J. Martin, both of Pembroke; a special son, Tommy Detamore, Pembroke; two daughters, Rachael Travis, Madison Heights, Va.; Beulah Gibson, Pembroke; two brothers, Virgil Gillespie and Jimmie Gillespie, both of Pembroke; three sisters, Hazel Creasey, Radford; Virginia Kanode, Rich Creek; Avis Detamore, Emporia; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Pembroke Church of God with the Rev. James Walker and the Rev. Maude Cherry officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, Pembroke, from 6:00 to 9:00 Tuesday evening.
