THIS YEAR FEED YOUR VALENTINE

Instead of buying Valentines to give to someone this Valentine's Day, why not make heart-shaped food such as biscuits or sandwiches for your family and friends?

You will need:

Large and small heart-shaped cookie cutters

For biscuits: biscuit dough, bread board, rolling pin, strawberry or raspberry jam

For sandwiches: whole grain bread, cream cheese, sliced tomatoes, radishes, and strawberries

For an afternoon snack: apples, cheese, crackers, cranberry juice and sparkling mineral water

To make breakfast biscuits, follow the directions for making your favorite biscuit recipe or use a refrigerated package of biscuits. Roll out the dough on a flour-dusted bread board and cut out heart-shaped biscuits with the cookie cutters. Bake according to directions and serve hot with strawberry or raspberry jam. You might even want to stick the biscuits and jam in a basket and serve your parents breakfast in bed.

For sandwiches, cut heart shapes from the whole grain bread, using a large cookie cutter. Spread cream cheese over each slice and top with sliced tomatoes, radishes or strawberries. Arrange on a platter and serve.

For an afternoon snack, cut an apple or two along with your favorite kind of cheese into 1/4 of an inch slices. Using a small cookie cutter, cut the cheese and apples into heart shapes. Arrange the hearts on a plate and serve with crackers. Mix cranberry juice and sparkling mineral water for a snappy Valentine's Day beverage.
