SIDNEY'S AWARDED DAMAGES IN LOCKOUT BY BEACH LANDLORD

The owner of Sidney's women's clothing stores won a small victory in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Monday when a judge awarded the company damages in a dispute with its Virginia Beach landlords.

Sidney Weinstein closed the store at Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach along with 37 other shops in January. But owners of the mall locked the company out of the store and Weinstein had to get a court order to recover his merchandise and fixtures.

Judge Ross Krumm in Roanoke awarded Sidney's $2,000 in punitive damages and costs in a court hearing. The Roanoke-based company still operates 20 stores and has promised to file a reorganization plan by May 2 for payment of creditors. - Staff report
