VA. NATIONAL GUARD 'COPTER UNIT ACTIVATED

A Virginia National Guard helicopter unit has been ordered to active duty to support Operation Desert Storm.

Members of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation are to report for duty today.

It is the 10th Virginia Army National Guard unit called to active duty since Iraq invaded Kuwait on Aug. 2. The company has an authorized strength of 49 and is equipped with UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.

The unit, based near Richmond, has a mission of transporting personnel and equipment.
