CAVE SPRING GIRLS DEFEAT COLONELS

Lisa Hodges scored 16 points and Ali Colgrove added 11 to lead Cave Spring to a 52-45 girls' basketball victory against Roanoke Valley District foe William Fleming.

The game turned on the free-throw line. The Knights (17-1 overall, 9-1 RVD) made 15 of 24 attempts and the Colonels (4-5, 11-6) were 7-of-12.

Regina Fields led William Fleming with 19 points.

\ Hargrave 75 North Cross 72 Hargrave Military Academy made seven of nine free throws in overtime and defeated stubborn North Cross 75-72 in a Virginia Independent Conference boys' basketball game Monday.

Marcus Cardwell, who had 16 points and eight assists, made one of two free-throw attempts with two seconds left to force overtime for North Cross.

Allen Whittle also had 16 for North Cross (4-19 overall, 3-10 VIC), including five 3-pointers.

Ryan Cook scored 14 and had 10 rebounds. Rusty Holman had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Ryan Hagwood had a game-high 20 points for Hargrave (13-3, 10-3). Eric Murray added 16.

The defense shut the Patriots down in the fourth and the Eagles made nine of 11 free throws to put the game away. Lottie Huffman and Betsy Forbes each scored 13 points for Franklin County (8-10 overall, 2-8 district). Casey Ginnini led PH (7-11, 1-9) with 12 points and Kim Saunders added 10.
