BLANKENSHIP, ARCHIE W.

Archie Walter Blankenship, age 68, of Route 2, Bland, Virginia died Monday, February 11, 1991 in a Wytheville Hospital. He was born in Bland County, a son of the late William E. and Annie Ethel Wright Blankenship. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Bland VFW Post #7969, a member of Bland Masonic Lodge #206 and was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections having served as a Correction Lieutenant. He is survived by his wife, Pearlie Mae Harmon Blankenship, Bland, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Kermit "Virginia" Gusler, Bland, Va.; a son, Archie D. Blankenship, Bland, Va.; a brother Edison L. Blankenship, Bland, Va.; two sisters, Stella G. Blankenship, Bland, Va.; Annie B. Brown, Chilhowie, Va.; three grandchildren, Gary Wayne "Pee Wee" Blankenship, Jason Gusler and Joshua Gusler, all of Bland. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. D. Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain Field Cemetery with graveside rites being conducted by the Bland Masonic Lodge and Bland VFW. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Bland, Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. They suggest that memorial donations be made to the Bland County Rescue Squad. Newberry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
